Habits and Processes

In October 2011, I started a series of interviews with writer friends about their habits and processes. It’s something that’s always interested me – the nuts and bolts of how writers think and act about their writing.

It’s something that seems to constantly crop up in conversations with newbies, and particularly from a judgemental point of view – I should be writing every day, I’m failing if I don’t. I don’t have any ideas at the moment, I must be a failure as a writer. Or it’s an excuse – I don’t have time to write. I’m too busy with kids/family/friends/work.

I happen to think that the more access you have to a variety of stories, the easier it is to see that there’s no right or wrong here. Well, there is – but it’s different for every single person.

Hence these posts. On Mondays, my writer friend talks about their habits – how they organise their life, look after themselves and their families, set themselves up to be a writer. On Wednesday, it’s about what they do when they’re actually sitting at the computer – how do they attack the ideas?
