Where the writing is up to – excitement builds

Well on Friday, I had a blinding flash of insight. I realised that a plot device I’d used in book three, Rogue Gadda, was unsuitable. Why? Cause I did the EXACT same thing in book one!

Doh!

Honestly, I can’t figure out why, when I came up with this idea to solve another problem two months ago, it didn’t occur to me then that I couldn’t do it. I was so excited to come up with a dramatic way to do what I needed to do that I completely forgot I’d used the same dramatic way to do something in Secret Ones. Now, if I was doing book ten of the series, maybe, just maybe, I could get away with copying something I did in book one. But in book three? Not gonna fly, my friends.

Luckily, the blinding flash of insight was followed within a few hours by the blinding flash of inspiration and I worked out what to do instead and while it’s not necessarily as dramatic, it does give me rein to make the relationship between hero and heroine even more fraught, and we know in a romance that’s a Very Good Thing. It also means that (shock! horror!) I’m dropping one of the sex scenes. Gonna make them suffer a bit more before they find their way back to being together.

Of course, this all means quite a bit of re-writing.

At the same time, I got notification that the copy-edits for book two, Power Unbound, are going to arrive tomorrow. Undoubtedly, there’s going to be something that I have to modify in there that’s also going to affect the plot arc of Rogue Gadda. The copy-edits are due back in two weeks.

And in the midst of all that, I’ve got to get myself ready for the release of Secret Ones – eleven sleeps and counting (not that I’m actually going to sleep as the excitement builds).

Deep breath in, deep breath out and jump in.
