Shona Husk–My favourite vampires

Shona Husk is celebrating the launch of not one, but TWO books this month. Wow.

Here she is, talking about a subject close to all our hearts – vampires :)

I spent my teen years watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so I think it was inevitable that I would think Vampires could be heroes and hot. I mean, they’re so tortured. Bad boys with fangs who just need to be loved.

Of course there is the risk they could rip your throat out or lose their soul or something equally horrid, but love conquers all. Or at least is does in romance novels.

IBurnForYouSmThe first paranormal romance I read was ‘I Burn For You’ by Susan Sizemore. It is one of the_companion_200Hher Prime Vampire novels. I loved it.

I sucked up the rest in the series without even blinking. Then came Susan Squires’ Companion series. These had a historical twist and also put a new spin on the Vampire myth. Did I mention how much I loved them?

By now I was writing my own Vampires, and having a lovely time re-creating the myth to suit my world. Vampirism was genetic, they could tolerate sunlight as long as they hadn’t drunk straight from the vein and their eyes turn white with lust (for either blood or sex). These stories eventually became the Lucinda’s Lover series. But before they ever left my outbox to join the slush pile at Ellora’s Cave there was Moonlight.

moonlightAh, it was only one season but Mick St. John was a Vampire worthy of love.eric

But Vampires haven’t left our screens because there is still True Blood. And while I haven’t read the books I have been enjoying the TV series.

Meanwhile my own Vampires have been getting out and about. Lucinda’s Lover is a Vampire rock band, the first book ‘Kissing Phoenix’ was released last year. ‘Tasting Thanatos’ and ‘Sharing Sirius’ followed and I’m working on the last book, ‘Enchanting Absinthe’. Vampire rock stars make perfect heroes :)

Who are your favourite Vampires either in books or film?

Sharing Sirius

In ancient Vampires, boredom can literally kill. When Jack sees Owen beginning to succumb, he knows he is no longer enough. Owen needs the blood of another lover to survive. So Jack turns to Katya, hoping she can entice Owen into living again.

At first Katya denies her lust to her boss, even though she’s wanted him for years. With Jack promising to look the other way, she has a scorching-hot encounter Owen.

Owen doesn’t want to admit what is happening to him. He doesn’t want to cheat and break Jack’s heart, and yet he can’t resist Katya. But Katya and Jack have their own sexy plan. And neither of them intend to lose Owen.

Thanks for asking this all important question, Shona. I need to think about this…

No, I don’t. Eric all the way. Both in book and film.

Although having said that, Keri’s Quinn is pretty hot. And then there’s all the great vampires in Kerrelyn Sparks’ Love at Stake series.

    Oh, so many yummy vampires…

  2. Bec McMaster says:

I think it would have to be Damon from Vampire Diaries at the moment. I love the bad boy redeemed and he has the best lines!
It used to be Spike from Buffy (I never got into the Angel thing, too goody two-shoes) but Spike had panache. LOL
As for books, I love Ilona Andrews take on them. How they’re ‘ridden’ by necromancers and painted fluro zinc colours whenever they get sent out in the sun.

  3. ruth says:

Dick Chaney from Molly Harper’s Nice Girls series.

  4. Mel Teshco says:

    Hi Shona and Nicole!

I still can’t believe Moonlight only went for one series *sigh*

I love me a good vampire story and/or movie! But now that the question is asked I can’t for the life think of who is my very fav!!! Maybe I have to read you vamp series Shona =))

(ps – I do adore Eric too)

  5. Shona Husk says:

I haven’t read the Ilona Andrews books (I’ll add them to the never ending TBR pile). I did like Spike, he had attitude and wasn’t all hung up about his soul :)

  6. Shona Husk says:

I know, I wish they’d kept Moonlight going. I think it would be too hard to choose just one favourite Vampire.

  7. Maria D. says:

Favorite vampires in books is Jean Claude from the Anita Blake series, Eric from the Southern Vampire series.

In TV/Movies – favorite vampires are Angel and Eric from True Blood.

  8. Kaylyn Davis says:

Wow that is such a hard question….. I really love Eric Northman in both the books and the series. I also love Spike. I have a thing for bad boys. ;) Emmet Cullen in the twlight movies isn’t too shabby either. LOL Vampires are always HOT!

  9. Anne Francis says:

Yay vampires! My favs on screen: Spike, Evil Angel, Mick St. John, Eric, and Damon. Yep, I like the bad boys. In print: J.R. Ward’s The Black Dagger Brothers and Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark vamps.

  10. Mary Roya says:

I love Angel and Spike!! Then there is Forever Knight, Mick St John. In books Eric in Sookie series is the best. But the tv series no so much. I love the vampiers in the Kerrely Sparks series. Then my final vampiers are the Lynsay Sands series the Argeneau…..

  11. Eleni Konstantine says:

    Hi Shona and Nicole,

Oh, yes, there are hot vampires out there aren’t there. In print, the brothers from the Black Dagger Brotherhood have to be up there.

On screen, well Mick St. John was just a honey, and then I always had a soft spot for Angel – a vampire with a soul who could turn if he was happy – talk about being cursed. No wonder the guy had to remain miserable, though he has a very dry sense of humour. :) Mitchell from Being Human (UK) – definitely cool but also very ‘human’ in his struggles.

I love your premise of vampire rock stars, Shona. I have the first one on my e-TBR shelf, so looking forward to reading that.

    Good luck!
